Forensic
Fast Facts
· Forensic
class meets during choice hour for the entire
year.
· Additional
tournament preparation time is required outside of
class.
· Forensicators
must compete in both middle school state tournaments held in January
and April.
· The
team has the option of competing in one or two high school
tournaments during the season, including Mackinac (7-8 graders only), which are not
mandatory.
· Forensicators are expected to attend all classes
unless excused. Acceptable reasons for missing class are illness,
appointments unable to be scheduled after class and family
considerations. If you need to miss a class for another BCS activity,
please discuss your absence with the Coach.
· Multiples and duo performances are dependent on everyone’s availability to practice together. (At least four 2 hour sessions for multiples.) If you don’t have a lot of time in your schedule stick to a solo event.
· Forensicators should enjoy performance and public
speaking.
· All
Forensicators must be memorized for tournaments. All timeline dates must be met to avoid stress and to be competitive for the tournaments. Failure to meet deadlines may lead to resignation from the team.
· Parents of first time forensicators should attend both tournaments.
· Two
evening showcases are held following tournaments for family and
friends. It's a wonderful opportunity to share in your child's
involvement.
· Parents
are asked to participate in the Forensic Boosters to help support the
team. This includes helping with fundraising and contributions to team
dinners, etc.
· Parents
are asked to help their forensicators prepare for tournaments by
watching their performance at home and monitoring their progress. This
will help eliminate feeling overwhelmed and under prepared for
competition.
· Commitment
is the key to success in forensics. You are not expected to win -- but
you are expected to compete to the best of your ability. As in any
team activity, everyone contributes to the success of the team.
· Encourage your child to communicate with the coach any stresses, conflicts or problems before they become issues. Forensicators are communicators and should not be afraid to sit down and problem-solve.
Forensics is the ultimate in fun for those who love to compete and
perform but requires a commitment in time far beyond choice hour
class. Forensics is a program that though we meet during choice hour,
will require a commitment beyond the choice hours we meet. Help your
child assess their involvement in sports, dance, studies, etc. and make
certain they can commit the time necessary to each of their activities
and not be overwhelmed.
