  • Quarter II Choice Hour - Choice Hour Descriptions and Selection Sheets are now available. Please turn in your Selection Sheet by 4pm on Monday, October 10th.

  • FILMING AT BCS – PERMISSION NEEDED by Oct. 12: Edutopia will be featuring BCS in their Schools that Work series.  They will be visiting this fall with their production crew to capture footage for their series highlighting what we do at BCS.  Edutopia is seeking parent permission in case they choose to use footage that includes your child(ren).  Click Edutopia Appearance Release Form and return the signed for to the BCS Office.

  • PTSA Reflections Contest, Show your Creativity - 2016-2017 PTSA Reflections Program kicks off this week with projects due Friday, November 11.  This year’s theme is What Is Your Story?  Write a story, draw or take a picture, make a movie, make music, perform dance.  Click the PTSA Reflections Link for all the details, entry form, and rules.  All artwork, including Summer Packet entries, can be placed in the Reflections box in the Media Center.

  • 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Winter I Athletics - It is time to get registered for the Boys Basketball teams and the Girls Swim Team. Please make sure that the office has a current year physical, dated on or after April 15, 2016. Registration is open at bpsregister.com. Tryouts for the Boys Basketball team will be from 6:45am – 8:00am, Wednesday, Nov. 2 – Friday, Nov. 4, 2016. There are no tryouts for the Swim Team. Swim Team practice begin Monday, Nov. 7 from 3:20pm – 5:00pm. More information for both sports can be found at www.bcsonline.info/athletics.html.

  • School start times survey - The Birmingham Public Schools Strategic Plan identified the need to study the start and end times of our schools. To assist with this effort, we are asking you to please complete the brief survey at the link below, which should take less than five minutes. Your participation will help us make sure that parent preferences and opinions are given all due consideration as we explore this important topic.   • Fall Picture Day - Picture retake day is Thursday, October 27.

  • Yearbooks Are On Sale Now! - Purchase your 2016-17 BCS Yearbook! In order to make the yearbook purchasing process easier, we are suggesting that orders be placed online!   • BCS Career Day, May 6 - The BCS Proud Dads sponsored "Career Day" ran after their regular lunch period and all BCS students will participate. "The purpose of the day is to expose students to a variety of future career path opportunities as well as to express the importance and need of ALL honorable work."   • The Ripple Effect -- A new BCS newsletter subtitled Sharing the Stories of BCS Students Making a Difference in the Lives of Others is a wonderful snapshot of some of the great work and learning that is ongoing at BCS. View all of the issues on our Students Home page.

  • Salmon in the Classroom -- Thanks to the generosity of the BCS PTSA and Premier Pet Supply in Beverly Hills, we are able to help the Great Lakes by raising salmon again this year. To view the blog click here: BCS Salmon Blog. This year's salmon were released on April 27, 2016 into the Clinton River in Auburn Hill's Riverside Park. 68 live salmon were released.   • BCS Bond 2015 Impact -- On May 5, 2015, voters in the Birmingham Public School District approved a bond proposal to improve school facilities, enhance building security for the safety of the students and staff, and provide up-to-date technology for students to remain globally competitive.   • BCS Wins National Recognition - Birmingham Covington School was just recognized as one of The 50 Best Middle Schools in the U.S. by TheBestSchools.org. They are the only school from Michigan to be designated with this honor by The Best Schools. TheBestSchools.org selected BCS based on several weighted factors, including academic excellence, NAEP scores, state assessment scores, received awards and rankings, geographical diversity, and reputation. Congratulations to BCS staff, students and families for this outstanding recognition.

  • 2015-16 Faculty awards and commendations:
    • Amanda Husband, art teacher, was selected to participate in the Henry Ford Teacher Fellow program which “utilizes a “co-creation” method to construct new education products and ideas that employ The Henry Ford’s extensive collection in an innovative and engaging way.”
    • John Prisciandaro, engineering technology teacher, was selected to participate in the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Teachers Program through Oakland University School of Engineering and Computer Science.  This Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program seeks to strengthen K-12 education in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
