PTSA News for the 2016-2017 School Year!


Budget Proposal

After discussion of the proposal to allocate $2,600 of unspent funds towards the update of the BCS sign, lighting, and lettering, a motion proposing an additional $15,000 towards an electronic update of the sign was made by A. Acey and seconded by D. Davis.

Motion will be posted for thirty days and voted on at the next PTSA meeting, February 2, 2017.

November 3, 2016 Agenda - Funding/Vote

Millage Renewal – Vote “YES” on November 8.  Friends of BPS requested a donation of $1000 from each BPS school to assist in campaign costs (materials, mailings, signage, and postage). A. Acey moved to make the $1,000 donation from Unplanned Expenses (50070) to the millage campaign (Friends of BPS). D. Patterson seconded the motion.  Motion will be  posted for thirty days and voted on at the next PTSA meeting, November 3, 2016.

    -       does not increase taxes

    -       38% decrease in funding if not passed

    -       passing it maintains our property values

Collaborative Space Expense. J. Peterson motioned to move $1,831 from Unplanned Expenses (50070) to Collaborative Spaces (50350). N. Corum seconded the motion. Motion will be posted for thirty days and voted on at the next PTSA meeting, November 3, 2016.

Collaborative Space budget of $12,460 was maximized over the summer. Additional work was done by school/parent volunteers to build benches in one of the vacant areas; Home Depot donated close to $200 in materials.  Carpet was needed to finish the benches totaling an additional expense of $1831.

BCS Directory 2016-2017: Current Family Information
To update your directory information for the 2016-2017 school year if you are a current family, you will need to request an email link to your family information. Please click HERE, enter your last name and email address. When the email from BCS Directory Information arrives, please scroll to the bottom and click on the link. This will then let you update your directory information. This link will allow you to update for the current school year.

At the BCS PTSA Clearinghouse meeting on January 7, 2016, a motion was made and seconded to put the following to a vote at the next PTSA Clearinghouse meeting on February 4, 2016.
Allocate previous unspent funds to the following projects at BCS:
• Climbing Wall for Swimming Pool - $16,000
• First Installment for the sound system in the cafeteria/gym - $15,000
• 2016 8th Grade Graduation present (Recycling System) - $2000 (if needed)


Programs of the BCS Parent-Teacher-Student Association

The central goals of our parent/BCS community support group are to increase student achievement, to promote the welfare of children and youth, to increase the level of parent involvement, and to enhance the communication process between the school and the BCS community.

At BCS, parents, students and staff join together to specialize in tasks that are essential for effective school governance. Our structure promotes effective coordination of efforts and the development of leadership opportunities. We encourage all parents to participate and volunteer at some level in an area of their interest and embrace any individual wishing to pursue a leadership role.

The BCS PTSA Clearinghouse is comprised of everyone in the BCS Community. The Clearinghouse meets monthly to provide an opportunity for the individual committees to review their activities with the larger community. Meetings also provide an open forum enabling parents and students to bring issues and concerns to the forefront. Both the Principal and Assistant Principal attend the meetings and are available to answer questions.

The Management Committee is comprised our elected officers - our Co-Chairs, Co-Treasurers, and Co-Secretaries - and the various Committee Chairs and Co-Chairs. The Management Committee is charged with making recommendations to the Clearinghouse on important matters including preparation of the annual budget and the development of procedural policies. The Management Committee meets bi-annually or as needed to meet its responsibilities. The PTSA Clearinghouse Co-Chairs meet with the Administration regularly to review and discuss the issues of the day.

PTSA Clearinghouse Committees

There are 14 standing PTSA Clearinghouse Committees. Generally these committees meet on a regular basis to address topics related to the specific needs of our school community. They undertake a variety of projects throughout the school year and offer our entire community a host of volunteer opportunities and options for involvement in school activities.  The PTSA menus list and link to each of our committee web pages.

All parents and teachers are invited to attend our PTSA Meetings. Meetings will start promptly and will last 60-75 minutes. If there is a specific topic you would like to add to the meeting agenda, please email the Co-Chairs at a week before the meeting and we will do our best to accommodate you.
